  With the work of our Librarian Susan Foster and a number of able volunteers, the hundreds of volumes in our library are being categorized in the areas of fiction and non-fiction. There also are self-help and instructional books, an entire section dedicated to family and children's literature plus a newly-reorganized research library.

   As more materials are uncovered an audio-visual section has started with a collection of animated video tapes featuring the "Vegi-Tales" series as well as cartoons illustrating famous Bible stories.

   "It seems that each time we think we are finished, we get another box of books or tapes somebody has found during the clean-up effort, so this really is a work in progress," said Pastor Gary Pendrak.

  In a recent report to the Church Council, Librarian Susan Foster enumerated the accomplishments she and the volunteers have been able to affect in just a few short months;
  • Established an organizational chart for the church library which includes a Library Committee, Librarian, Reference Librarian, Literary Librarian and Archival Librarian.
  • Established a criteria for book selection and removal.
  • Removed all books which did not comply with approved criteria.
  • Established categorical perimeters for book placement.
  • Divided books into approved categories.
  • Inserted library cards and jackets.
  • Accepted approximately 100 donations of current best selling Christian books.
  • Developed and secured donations for a teen section.
  • Developed a system for loaning out books.
  • Opened library in July and have loaned out approximately 75 books.

   Possibly the best part is the decoration job that's been done on the library room, with flowers and church artifacts used to make the entire section more attractive.

   "It has been a real blessing to see the work that's been accomplished there," said Rev. Pendrak.

   We have a lit more that we want to get done," Susan said. "But I can say that with all of the people who have steppped forward to help, it can be done and done in a very efficient manner."

   Among the things she outlined are to;

  • Complete the insertion of cards and jackets for every book in the library.
  • Establish a computer system for the card catalog.
  • Begin a monthly newsletter.
  • Establish a book club.
  • That the library remain opened to the community and staffed by volunteers at least five days of the week.

   We urge you to stop by and see the library during your next trip to the church and take time to sit for a while and browse some of our selections.
