The Journey Continues PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rev. James Weiss
Sunday, 05 September 2010 19:35

  We continue with our trip thru the year 2010.

   It is that time of the year when we begin to look back on the journey from the beginning of 2010, until now.

   We press on and begin to see that it is now necessary to begin planning for 2011.   I want to share with you some of the important needs of the church.

   1. We must start to meet with the lay leadership committee to think about the class of 2013, yes, the class of 2013. I will be contacting members of this group to arrange for a meeting.

   2. The Finance Committee begins to struggle with a new year and a new budget. Committees need to think about needs of the church. Pastor Parish has met and salaries have been recommended for the year. The needs of other committees must be noted along with questimates of financial need.

   3. Our church conference has been set by our District Superintendent for the month of October—we will be meeting at St. John’s in Sebring, the last of October– Yes! This is a change.

   4. I want to thank all of you for your support and prayers, as we begin our ministry and witness for Christ and Avon Park First United Methodist Church.

Prayer Shawl Ministry PDF Print E-mail
Written by Knit N. Pearl
Tuesday, 24 August 2010 14:27

  Members of our Prayer Shawl group have been busy since it's inception back in June. in their twice monthly session they have knitted and crocheted 14 shawls, two lap afgans, a child's quilt and a baby blanket

   The hope is for the members to show the love of Christ by sharing their unique talents. Those who want to participate but don't know how will be instructed, while those who already have learned will have an opportunity to exchange information during a great time of fellowship and creativity.

Study Scripture PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rev. Weiss
Sunday, 22 August 2010 09:00

  The Study Scripture will be updated as the pastor deems necessisary. The current scripture is Acts 12:1 - 16 which reads;

1 About that time Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church. 2 He killed James the brother of John with the sword; 3 and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. 4 And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. 5 So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.
